MESC2010 Headliner: Bus Company
BIG, BRIGHT and YELLOW. Bus Company, armed with the mission to make an impact on people with our “alternative fusion rock” music blend - inspired by the variety of our individual styles and influences. Bus Company was initially named “Silverline” sounds like a bus company doesn’t?
With most of the members hailing from Klang, they describe themselves as a “mesh of mixed blood”, with members from different backgrounds, of Chinese, Malay, Indian and Portuguese parentage and “loads of Klang”. They broke through the music scene in 2007, gaining popularity and added exposure via Battle of the Bands as grand prize winners.
The band is all about sending out positive messages to this generation. Samuel Oh, the front man of the band says, "One of the easiest ways we find our voices being heard is when we put together our talents as a group, which is also five times louder than one person standing alone."
Catch Bus Company here in Monash University Sunway Campus on 17th of April!! It's only a day away!

MESC2010 Headliner: Jin Hackman
Jin is your regular 20-something guy – goes to college, pines for the unattainable girl, hangs out with friends at the nearest mamak joint, broke most of the time and like everyday folks, petrol price pisses him off. But Jin is also one of brightest shining stars of Malaysia's fledgling hip hop scene, a best kept secret only privy to those involved. He might not rock chains, expensive sneaks and the trendiest threads but challenge him on the mic and he'll leave lesser rappers with broken egos.
A member of the hip hop collective Rogue Squadron (which underground champions The Rebel Scum is a part of), Jin Hackman has steadily build up a name for himself in the independent circuit for some 4 odd years now. Having had multiple gigs under his name, spewed killer punchlines at rap battles and established presence on the internet music community, Jin garnered accolades that made him the envy of his peers. Local underground music expert-cum-journo Adly Syairi Ramly said “I came close to giving up on the local hip hop scene, that was until I came across Jin Hackman." (The Malay Mail) and JUICE Magazine not only inducted Jin Hackman into their Cool List of 2008 but invited him as a performer for the Cool List Reveal Party as well.
Early March 2009 marks the release of Jin Hackman's debut album Jinius At Work, a microcosm of who Jin Hackman is; from songs about childhood experiences, hip-hop verité to heartbreak, and yes lots of witty verbal put downs and braggadocio. The 14-track opus is a labour of love built on the DIY ethos that would even rival the indie bands name-dropped in the hit single Heezy Rock, which along with Still Hip Hop have been regularly played by radio stations Hitz FM, Fly FM and Xfresh FM. The song MC was the favourite track of 2008 of famed hip-hop producer Qumran (Too Phat), whom had praised the album for its “insane punchlines with days of throwback styles” as well as for marking “the fresh end of new money in MY hip-hop.” (1AsiaHipHop.com)
Entirely self-financed and distributed without a record label, Jin Hackman would go as far as selling the album from the boot of his car, thus espousing what hip-hop, or rather indie music in general, is all about – the passion, the hustle and the talent to back it all up.
Jinius At Work is produced by fellow Rogue Squadron members Phrozt, Skware-1 and MicWrecka, as well as outside producers Funktionz and Decipher. Mastered by Mark Dorc at Banging Masters, Toronto, the album features guest appearances by fellow Rogue Squadron members NBE, Phalanx, HQA, WordsManifest and Proximas plus international acts Kryptik (Netherlands) and Ndeesaster (Indonesia).

MESC2010 Headliner: Eve Oh
Being a songwriter, Eve's main influences derive from bands of different genres like Flyleaf, Story Of The Year, Saosin, Paramore and many more which has helped to mature her writing. Yet, guided by her own spiritual beliefs, she takes listeners from plain negativity into a field of positivism. She hopes to deliver messages of hope and love, like igniting a candle in the midst of darkness; uplifting with spirit-filled lyrics.

MESC2010 Headliner: Rosevelt
Next on our MESC2010 Headliners List, we have Rosevelt, a band that is slowly gaining support from fans all over!
Formed in June 2009 after Bryan, Joshua and Kushal formerly from The Randoms met Nick at one of Snow Symphony's(Nick’s singer/songwriter alias) gigs. The first time the band jammed with Nick, they knew right away that he was perfect for the band.
His vocal styles and the bands music went hand in hand. Completing 5 songs in just 2 months proves how tight and hardworking the band is.
With a few major gigs under their belt the band seems to be on the right track towards achieving rock stardom. The band is all set and ready to climb their way up the Malaysian Indie Scene. With their public debut at Indie Youth Fest 2009, the band already managed to gather quite a number of supporters. Recently after only being in the scene for a good 6 months the band managed to get a slot in Rock The World 09.
According to the band it is the best Christmas gift they could ever get at the same time a great way to end a very fruitful 2009. With the completion of their first single, ‘Madicine’, Rosevelt is ready to hit the airwaves with a new and refreshing sound. They also prove to be a versatile band as they are ready to perform in any kind of format be it full electric set or acoustic.
The band hopes to release an EP by mid 2010. Ultimately one thing is for sure, their unique blend of Hard Melodic Rock, Nu Metal and Alternative Rock is going to leave you head banging till your neck hurts.
Rosevelt has managed to garner a nomination in the Best College Act Award at the VIMA 2010 this year.

MESC2010 Headliner: Ask Me Again
Ask Me Again was formed in late 2005 and 3 months later, they released their first demo consisting of six songs, including the single "Videogame". According to the band, these songs were written when some of the band members were merely 11 to 12 years of age, many years prior to the release of the demo.
Drawing countless amounts of comparisons to bands like System of a Down and Muse, Ask Me Again was actually formed on the basis that everyone's individual influences be put into the song-writing process, and that, today, is the sound we intend on projecting to their listeners. After the departure of Faiz Rosli (Current vocalist of the band Forty Winks) from the band in August 2007, they recruited Hameerudin Zawawi and haven't looked back since.
Their biggest achievements to date are to have acquired the top 5th spot on Fly.FM's Campur Charts with the single "Videogame", playing as a Guest Band for the Justea, Mister Potato and Touch n’ Go Battle of the Bands, and other high profile shows like Bazooka Series at Laundry Bar, Campur Charts Goes Live and the Monash Music Festival.
They also provided the backing music for the Mitsubishi Lancer 2007 advertisement, and got airplay on Hot.fm and XFresh.FM for the song “Ayammas”. AMA were also invited to play at the launch of Burberry's “The Beat” perfume release which was later followed by a performance for the Johor Bharu Arts Festival in July 2009.
In December 2009, they were called to play Malaysia’s biggest and oldest rock festival, “Rock the World 9” for the first time.
AMA was recently awarded with a music video produced by I-AmTV for their song Andigo.

They have also played prestigious stages such as the Selangor Music Festival and Rock The World 9. MESC2010 Headliner: Prema Yin
The MESC2o10 will feature an impressive line up of performances by local artistes as well as Monash Talents. The blog will feature each and every headlining act on its site so that readers can get to know them more.
To kick things off, we will start with Prema Yin, a young performer who has already left a mark in the music industry lately by scoring four nominations for her debut EP, Eyo Eyo in the upcoming Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM 17).
Prema Yin has been singing since she was in primary school, entertaining crowds at weddings, private functions and having a go at age group singing competitions.
At present she is pursuing her studies but as music is her first love she is trying to juggle her time and focus between both. She took part in the National level singing competition organized by NTV 7, Who Will Win Malaysian Topstar and emerged as the winner in 2004.
Wanting to gain more experience and to further improve herself, Prema Yin hit the pub scene, performing with such well known personalities as Jerry Felix, Simon Justin, Richard Gomez, Collin Jensen, Albert Sirimal, Ronny Felix, Vijay David and others. She also performed with Jaclyn Victor for a national level TV show and has also performed a number of times on TV.
In 2006 she was invited to audition for the Aseana Percussion Unit and has been a member of this very popular group for the past 3 years. Performing in various local pub scenes: Bangkok Jazz, Groove Junction, Waikiki etc. and also in festivals such as Penang Jazz Festival, Sunrise Jazz Fest, Sarawak Rainforest Festival as well as overseas (China for the
Zhu Jia Jia Water Village Festival, Singapore Arts Festival).
Her major influences have been from blues rock, r&b, melancholic, soul and funk. She has been inspired by the work of great musicians notably Aerosmith, Stevie Wonder, Sarah Maclachlan, Chaka Khan, Erykah Badu, Shania Twain etc.
She has great feel and her songs are charged with raw emotions.
Prema Yin is not only an accomplished singer but she is also one of the rare breed of singer/song writer and has been composing her own songs since she was 14. Her songs are created from her past experiences, random thoughts, imagination and life itself. And now, after 5 years of
her venturing into the music scene, she has finally decided to record her own songs which she hopes to share with music lovers.
Not only that, she has had the opportunity to perform on stage with Colbie Caillat(famous for her song, ”Bubbly”) and the great John Ford Coley.
In January 2009, she had two nominations for the Voize Independent Music Awards (VIMA) for Best Female Vocalist (Overall) and Best Rock Vocalist, which she bagged the Bronze Award, being the only female nominated amongst a category dominated by men. In 2010, she received four nominations, Best Rock Vocalist, Best Female Vocalist (Overall), Most Mindblowing Video Clip and Best Pop Song, where she received the Gold Award for “Eyo Eyo”.
